Joanne Lata LLB(Hons) Higher Criminal Court Advocate:
Commenced her legal career in Leeds in 1988 in 1993 Joanne moved to a large criminal practice in Halifax where she specialised in Crime and undertook Family Law and Road Traffic matters as well as Mental Health matters. In 1994 Joanne was awarded Police Station Accreditation. She became the Head of the Crown Court Department and specialised in High Profile cases including numerous Customs and Excise cases and Serious Organised Crime and Fraud investigations.
Since qualifying as a solicitor Joanne has represented defendants in a vast number of cases ranging from petty Theft to Murder, including Arson, Kidnap, Sexual Offences and Fraud. She has dealt with clients from all walks of life, from poorer backgrounds to high profile members of the community and as such had a number of dealings with the media. In 2007 Joanne was awarded the status as a Higher Court Advocate and is able to represent clients in the Crown Court, High Court and Appeal Courts in a role that was historically reserved for Barristers.
Joanne has detailed knowledge of Mental Health Legislation and has regularly been called upon to assist clients with Mental Health issues. Joanne has also dealt with a number of Animal Welfare matters, Council Legislation matters, Security Licences and Private Car Hire Licences to name but a few.
Glenn Mitchell PhD, BSc (Hons), CChem, MRSC, CBiol, MSB, PDL, PGCE
Glenn is our food science specialist, with 25 years of technical and advisory experience. After gaining his BSc in biochemistry and PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Glenn spent several years carrying out research in both food chemistry and food microbiology at the government's Institute of Food Research and the Central Science Laboratory (now part of the Food and Environmental Research Agency).
Since then Glenn has worked primarily with contract food laboratories in a range of positions, including microbiology technical manager, senior chemist, health and safety officer and as a founding partner in a UKAS accredited start up business. Glenn spent several years working for a global laboratory group providing technical advice and assistance to laboratories around the world and to their clients.
Glenn gained his Post Graduate Certificate in Law in 2003 from Huddersfield University and has several years' experience in advising both food manufacturers and analytical service providers on the technical aspects of food law. In addition Glenn is a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Biologist along with being a qualified teacher and having a NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety.
Paul Manning LLB(Hons) Higher Criminal Court Advocate:
Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1988 Paul has represented clients in all aspects of criminal law. Paul initially specialised in family law but over the years found his calling in the criminal courts. He has represented high profile clients on a number of occasions and has been called upon to represent in white collar criminal matters involving serious fraud and regulatory matters. Paul is also a Higher Court Advocate able to represent clients at both the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court, Higher Court and Court of Appeal. Paul is regularly called upon to deal specifically with Road Traffic Matters where attention to detail can often be key to finding successful outcomes.
Becky Antcliffe LLB(Hons):
Becky has been an accredited police station representative and Crown Court legal adviser for over fifteen years. Having started her working life as a secretary Becky aspired to be more and studied for her law degree part time while working full time in the busy practice of Goodwin Stevens Solicitors. After spreading her wings and working for other high profile firms Becky returned to Goodwin Stevens almost six years ago after pausing briefly to start a family. Becky is particularly adept at dealing with large scale conspiracy matters and her analytical approach to evidence makes her top of her game. She is not only sought after for her vast knowledge and experience but also her down to earth approach which makes clients feel at ease throughout their cases. In addition to the criminal work that Becky does she is skilful in dealing with family matters and particularly skilful in negotiating settlements in matrimonial financial disputes. Becky is currently studying to qualify as a solicitor through the new SQE qualification route. Watch this space.
